HOW IT ALL STARTED
Oak Park Community Church began with a vision in the heart of Pastor DelRoy Johnson, long-time faculty member at Northwestern College. Six people were in attendance that first evening, including Pastor DelRoy and his wife Patty. Sunday services began quickly in October of that same year, meeting at Madison Elementary School. Pastor DelRoy’s God-given dream was for a church which would help non-Christians to become followers of Christ and then grow to maturity.
EXPANDING THE VISION
God blessed the new work with growth. That first Sunday service was attended by 61 people and by February 2nd of 1986 the group had grown to 104. Within the first fifteen months of ministry, Pastor DelRoy had baptized eighteen individuals. The property owned by the church today was purchased in 1987. The worship center in the existing building was built in 2001, and the education wing of the building was added in 2012.
